A Village That Rebuilt Its Water Access by Moving
St. Joseph's original 1849 site sat on the Salt Fork River as Kelly's Ford, but the 1867 rail relocation moved the whole village a mile and a half north by 1870, away from that original water source, before it organized formally in 1881. Water and sewer infrastructure in the village dates to that post-1870 relocated site, not the original riverside settlement.
Plumbing on a Century-and-a-Half-Old Townsite
Supply and drain lines installed as St. Joseph's relocated village grew after 1870 have been extended and replaced piecemeal for over 150 years since, and older sections of the village can still carry infrastructure from several different plumbing eras. Tracing a persistent issue there often starts with figuring out which era's pipe is actually in the ground.
