Plumbing Scaled to Millionaires Row
The historic homes along Monticello's State Street, nicknamed Millionaires Row, and the Allerton mansion built 1899-1903 were constructed with more elaborate systems -- plumbing included -- than a standard Piatt County farmhouse of the same era. Monticello became the Piatt County seat in 1841, and its wealthiest properties have carried increasingly complex plumbing systems ever since.
Repairing Plumbing in Larger, Older Homes
A larger historic home has more linear feet of supply and drain line, more fixtures, and often more than one water heater or pressure zone, which changes how a plumbing problem should be diagnosed compared to a smaller house. Monticello's older, grander housing stock deserves that scaled-up approach.
