The First Village Built Around Water
Mahomet was platted in 1832 specifically because the Sangamon River offered settlers reliable water, making it the first community established in what is now Champaign County. That founding relationship with water has continued in a different form: modern plumbing infrastructure serving a village whose original reason for existing was river access.
Water Infrastructure Near the Sangamon's Headwaters
Properties closer to the river tend to deal with a higher water table, which can affect everything from sump and drain performance to how supply and sewer lines were originally routed near the Sangamon. A Mahomet plumbing job near the river benefits from knowing that history before assuming a standard inland layout.
